Jamie Hageman lives and works on the West coast of Scotland, exploring the mountains and valleys, and looking for new and unusual perspectives on them. He finds inspiration in short summer strolls, winter mountaineering and hidden viewpoints, and derives most pleasure from seeking out the most impressive views in the mountains.

He has walked and climbed since the age of eleven, and has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Vehicle Design, that has no doubt influenced his style being precise, accurate and highly detailed.

Jamie has climbed and painted in Australia, New Zealand, The Canary Islands, The Pyrenees and Slovenia, as well as all over the British Isles. Scotland has its unique charms for Jamie, and the challenge of getting the most impressive possible view of a mountain is the driving force behind his work.

A great example of this is the seldom seen view of the Northeast Face of Ben Nevis from GR175719, a view that yields one of the most spectacular sights in the British mountains. Jamie painted this epic scene on an equally epic (for Jamie) scale, and was selected to exhibit it at the Aspect Prize exhibition at Paisley Museum and Art Galley in 2006, where it immediately sold.

Several overnight trips to the same location since, have gained Jamie more detailed information on the vastness of this alpine face . and it is a view that Jamie will continue to paint, for it provides endless inspiration.

"I first noticed the possibility of this view on the map, aiming for a close-up of the Northeast Buttress, end on. When I arrived there that Winter, I couldn't believe it . the buttress appeared sharper and more impressive than I could ever have imagined. It was sublime, and took my breath away. I was so excited, I had never seen the Ben like it before"

Future Projects

The Cuillin mountains are near top of Jamie's list this Winter, with Sgurr nan Gillean from the South, and Clach Glas from the North his two main targets for paintings.
